REBNY Renames Annual Management Award to Honor Edward Riguardi of Jones Lang LaSalle

RENBY to bestow Edward Riguardi Commercial Management Executive of the Year Award on May 27

NEW YORK, May 25, 2010 — The Real Estate Board of New York has renamed one of its top property management awards after Edward Riguardi. The organization will bestow the Edward Riguardi Commercial Management Executive of the Year Award later this month.

Previously known as the Commercial Management Executive of the Year Award, the honor is given to property management executives who have displayed long-term leadership and made significant contributions to the real estate industry in New York. REBNY will bestow this year’s award on Tom Hill of Boston Properties at its annual breakfast event on May 27 at the Hilton Hotel.

“It is a tremendous privilege to have this prestigious award named after me by my peers at REBNY,” said Edward Riguardi, special advisor to Jones Lang LaSalle’s New York office. “It has been a great honor to be a member and an officer of an organization that has worked very hard to address the many important issues that the city’s real estate market must face.”

“The Commercial Breakfast Planning Committee, chaired by Mike Norton of Tishman Speyer and Morris Wiesenberg of RFR Realty, wanted to do something to recognize Edward Riguardi's years of service to the real estate industry,” said Steven Spinola, president of REBNY. “He has been an important voice in Manhattan, consulting with private and public leaders over the years on issues ranging from safety regulations, and city codes to the rehabilitation of properties, and labor laws and agreements.”

With more than 45 years of experience in the New York commercial real estate industry, Riguardi has been called the “Dean of Property Management in New York.” He is a special advisor to Jones Lang LaSalle’s New York office, consulting with the firm concerning the oversight and expansion of its property management portfolio in the New York metropolitan area.

He was previously a managing director with senior-level oversight of Jones Lang LaSalle’s property management portfolio in the New York metropolitan area. Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle, Riguardi served as chairman of Colliers ABR, and, before that, as president and one of the founders
of Keppel Tener Riguardi. As president, he was responsible for creating KTR’s Property Management Group, which grew to oversee more than 6 million square feet of institutional property, and for managing the growth of the firm’s brokerage, consulting and appraisal businesses.

Earlier, Riguardi spent 29 years at Williams Real Estate, rising from its operations and engineering department to being named one of the firm’s three senior executive vice presidents, a partner and a member of Williams’ six-man executive committee, which oversaw the operations of the firm. At its peak, the company’s portfolio consisted of nearly 30 million square feet of office space in 200 Manhattan office buildings, encompassing more than 5,000 tenants.

Riguardi holds engineering, real estate and insurance degrees. He is also a licensed real estate and insurance broker in New York, and earned his RPA designation from BOMA International, his CPM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and his CRE designation from the American Society of Real Estate Counselors. In 1982, Riguardi was honored by the Real Estate Board of New York as its Management Man of the Year and has won accolades for his work in safety regulations, city codes, rehabilitation of properties and adding value to a client’s property. Recently, Riguardi was honored with REBNY’s Commercial Management Leadership Award and The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award.

Riguardi has been an active member and participant with REBNY for more than 30 years. He served on the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of The Real Estate Board of New York, overseeing its management division. He was previously a vice president and member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Realty Advisory Board. Riguardi has served three prior mayors on real estate committees in New York and, for more than 20 years, served as president and chairman of the Realty Advisory Board Labor Negotiating Team, a group that negotiates the labor agreements with labor organizations, representing building owners in the real estate industry. He also served on various committees critiquing our industries experience to September 11, 2001 and the August 14, 2003 blackout.

Riguardi is a past president of BOMA, and has served as chairman of the Local Law #5 Committee of the Real Estate Board of New York, as well as the Real Estate Board’s liaison to New York City commissions on asbestos, handicap, SRO, filing fees, strobe lighting, construction, elevators, local laws, and the American Disability Act.

Riguardi also served on the Mayor’s Committee on the Commission of School Facilities, the Committee on Maintenance Reform, and The New York City Building Code Review. He is the recipient of the 1999 Iona College Trustee Award.
