JLL continues to invest in Public Institutions practice to meet growing need for real estate advisory

Nicholas Gabel appointed as Vice President of JLL’s Public Institutions efforts on the West Coast

SALT LAKE CITY, June 25, 2018 – Government and higher education institutions alike continue to face budget pressures, leading officials and administrators to find efficiencies and unlock value in their real estate portfolios. JLL announced today the addition of Nicholas Gabel to help meet this growing need among public sector and higher education clients on the West Coast.

In his new role as Vice President, Public Institutions, Gabel will work under Bob Hunt, Managing Director, West Region, focusing on helping public institutions strategically link their real estate and facilities strategy to their overall business strategy. His current work focuses on large-scale public-private partnership (P3) development with a variety of asset types, including student housing, academic, retail and multifamily.

"Nicholas's robust experience in higher education planning and development advisory has already provided value to the University of Colorado Denver, where he has played an instrumental role in helping the university monetize its existing student housing to unlock equity for additional campus development," said Hunt. "We look forward to our other government and higher education clients benefiting from his P3 development experience across a variety of asset types, and we're thrilled to have him on board."

Gabel brings 11 years of higher education and advisory experience, fostering his comprehensive understanding of the built environment from planning to implementation. He comes from Brailsford & Dunlavey, a planning firm focused on higher education institutions and municipalities, where he served as a project manager advising upwards of 65 colleges and universities.

His recent client experience includes University of Colorado Denver; University of California, Davis; University of California, Santa Cruz; and San Francisco State University. Prior, Nicholas was a senior associate in the Advisory Services program at the Urban Land Institute and a project assistant with Paradigm, a small real estate development firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
