JLL’s Jim Whittaker named International Facility Management Association Fellow

Leading facility management association recognizes JLL leader for lifetime contribution to profession

CHICAGO, Oct. 23, 2017 – Jim Whittaker, recently appointed to lead JLL’s Engineering Services business, has been named a Fellow of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). As part of the 2017 class of IFMA Fellows, Whittaker was inducted at IFMA’s annual Awards of Excellence banquet held on Friday, Oct. 20, in Houston, Texas, during IFMA’s World Workplace 2017 Conference and Expo. The prestigious IFMA Fellowship is the association’s highest honor.

Jim Whittaker.JPGA former chair of the IFMA board and an IFM Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Whittaker was appointed head of JLL’s Engineering Services Americas business in early fall 2017. Based in Virginia, Whittaker drives strategy for the firm’s renowned technical solutions that keep buildings running smoothly.

Whittaker joined JLL with 30 years of engineering and FM experience in government, institutional, educational, healthcare and corporate facilities. He is highly regarded in building compliance and standards and most recently led the development of International Organization of Standardization (ISO) standards for FM.

Before joining JLL, Whittaker served for more than a decade as President and CEO of Facility Engineering Associates, a Virginia-based engineering and FM consulting firm. Under Whittaker’s leadership, the firm grew from a fledgling start-up to a multimillion-dollar consultancy with offices across the United States and clients operating in 30 countries around the world.

Whittaker is a past member of the U.S. Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) industry advisory group and has taught more than 100 IFMA courses. He is a fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and instructor in the facility management program at George Mason University.

Whittaker is a licensed professional engineer (PE); a Certified Facility Manager (IFMA); a Certified Educational Facilities Professional and a Leadership in Education Fellow (APPA Leadership in Education Facilities); and a RICS Fellow.

He is a past chair of the IFMA board of directors; a past board member and standards committee co-chair of APPA’s TCO standard; the current chair of the FM Research and Benchmarking Institute (FM RBI); and chair of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE).  

IFMA’s Fellowship program was established in 1992 to recognize members’ lifetime contributions to the association and the facility management community. When considering a candidate for Fellowship, the nominating committee assesses professional experience and accomplishments; association involvement; and how that person has enriched the profession.
