JLL appoints global industry leader to head engineering services

Jim Whittaker to drive operational excellence in firm’s world-class building operation and engineering services


​​​CHICAGO, Oct. 2, 2017 – JLL today announced the appointment of Jim Whittaker to lead JLL's Engineering Services business across the Americas. Based in Virginia, Whittaker will drive strategy for the firm's renowned technical solutions that keep buildings running smoothly. He will be responsible for growth and operational excellence for services that include engineering and maintenance services, life cycle and asset planning, operational compliance, performance excellence and smart building services.

Jim Whittaker.JPGWhittaker brings nearly 30 years of engineering and facility management (FM) experience in government, institutional, educational, healthcare and corporate facilities. He is highly regarded in building compliance and standards and most recently led the development of two International Organization of Standardization (ISO) standards for FM.

Whittaker joins JLL following more than a decade as president and CEO of Facility Engineering Associates, a Virginia-based engineering consulting firm. Under Whittaker's leadership, the firm grew from fledgling start-up to a multimillion-dollar consultancy with offices across the United States and clients operating in 30 countries around the world.

Whittaker is a past member of the U.S. Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) industry advisory group and has taught more than 100 International Facility Management Association (IFMA) courses. He is a fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and instructor in the facility management program at George Mason University.

Whittaker holds a BS degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont and an MS in civil engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE); a Certified Facility Manager (IFMA); a Certified Educational Facilities Professional and a Leadership in Education Fellow (APPA Leadership in Education Facilities); and a RICS Fellow.

He is a past chair of the IFMA board of directors; a past board member and standards committee co-chair of APPA; the current chair of the FM Research and Benchmarking Institute; and chair of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE).
