JLL’s Robert Manekin to Celebrate 40th Commercial Real Estate Anniversary

Veteran Baltimore City commercial real estate broker celebrates 40th anniversary in the business September 21st

Baltimore, MD, September 11, 2017 – JLL's Senior Vice President, Robert (Bob) Manekin, marks his 40th anniversary in commercial real estate in Baltimore, Maryland on September 21, 2017.

"At 68 years old, I may be the oldest active commercial real estate broker in downtown Baltimore; however, everyone in JLL's Baltimore office knows that I have no intention of slowing down or retiring," notes Manekin. "There are still clients to serve, new business to get, and the next generation of brokers to educate. So why stop now? Besides, I am having too much fun!"

Manekin began his real estate career in property management in 1977 with the family business, Manekin Corporation, following a three-year tour as a Navy lieutenant in the Navy Judge Advocate Corps.  As part of his family's business, Manekin spent the next 15 years developing, leasing and managing more than 3.5 million square feet of office, flex and industrial space across the Baltimore region before leaving to focus on brokerage. Since 1992, Manekin has worked at a variety of companies including Studley, The Staubach Company, Colliers International – Baltimore, and since 2016, JLL. During that time, he has served as a real estate advisor to more than 150 businesses, professional services firms, and institutions.

"Bob was a critical part of our Colliers-Baltimore acquisition in 2015," states Mark G. Levy, Managing Director and Baltimore office lead. "His rich history in the Baltimore market and his tremendous work ethic are highly respected in the industry. He has been an incredible value to JLL, so much so that he now participates in nationwide broker education training initiatives, allowing him to impart his experience and wisdom to the next generation of brokers."

And while maintaining his production at Top Achiever levels, it is training the next generation of JLL's brokers that now gets Manekin's attention and time. As he puts it, "Educating JLL's newest brokers is the ambition I want to achieve."

Manekin conducts regular broker training sessions in JLL's DC Region, presents a monthly Broker Know How! webinar nationally, founded JLL's Smart Brokerage education initiative, and served as an instructor at JLL's Rookie Boot Camp last April.

"Despite being in the commercial real estate industry for 40 years, Bob still has the energy and enthusiasm of colleagues who are half his age," states Greg O'Brien, CEO JLL Americas. "His latest goal – training the next generation of brokers here at JLL – speaks to his professionalism and passion for this business. We look forward to his spending many more years with us at JLL."

"I still work 50 to 60 hour weeks," says Manekin. "What can I say? The business is a part of me. Besides, as Confucius once said, 'Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.' I love this job, particularly now that I am spending more time training and mentoring the next generation of real estate professionals."

"I have known and worked with Bob since he joined the Staubach Company in 2005," says Roger Staubach, Executive Chairman, JLL Americas.  "He is the consummate professional and a real advocate for the City of Baltimore. We are glad he is celebrating his anniversary at JLL and look forward to his having many more years at the company."

Manekin lives in Owings Mills, Maryland with his wife of 44 years, Vivian. He has five children (Sarah, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Abigail and Ben) and three grandchildren (Ellie, Henry and Tessa). He has been actively involved in the Greater Baltimore community over the years, serving as president of the Jewish Community Center, The Associated Jewish Community Federation's Young Leadership Council and the Building Owners & Managers Association of Baltimore as well as holding board positions with the Greater Baltimore Committee, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore,  BOMA of Baltimore and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
