Zurich North America Moves to New Headquarters

LEED Platinum® build-to-suit reflects world-class organization

CHICAGO, September, 28, 2016 – JLL was in attendance today at the ribbon cutting for Zurich North America's new headquarters building in Schaumburg, IL. The ceremony marked the official opening of the 783,800 square foot campus that will be home to nearly 3,000 employees and contractors. JLL and its experts have been working with Zurich since January 2013 to deliver what is now a cutting edge Class A+ office development that marks a significant investment into the Schaumburg community.

As part of an ambitious plan, the commercial insurance giant was seeking a transformation in its workplace. The requirements dictated a build-to-suit campus, and the JLL team came together from all sides. Under the direction of John Musgjerd, Senior Managing Director, JLL provided strategic planning, site selection, owner, architect, developer, design builder selection, capital structure, state and local incentives and construction project management services.

"With so many organizations evaluating their need to replace or redevelop their offices and headquarters, there is a lot of opportunity to help them along the way," said Jerry Riordan, Senior Vice President, JLL, who represented Zurich during the design and construction process. "The world-class asset that we now have in Zurich North America is a shining example and true testament to our build-to-suit team."

"This building is a showcase of all we are at Zurich: Its excellence in design, its focus on sustainability and its reflection of our employees," said Mike Foley, Chief Executive Officer for Zurich North America. "Our new headquarters building embodies a new chapter for our organization and our recommitment to the North American market as part of our broader, global business plan. We see a bright future for our customers, shareholders and employees."

Also during the ceremony, Doug Widener of the U. S. Green Building Council® (USGBC) announced that the new Zurich headquarters building has been awarded the LEED Platinum® rating, the highest rating available, for the facility's environmental sustainability initiatives.  The building includes multiple green roofs, energy efficient technologies, rainwater harvest and re-use, accommodations for electric and low-emitting vehicles and native landscape with more than 600 trees on 40 acres. JLL's Keara Fanning, Sustainability Practice Lead, helped with the pursuit of LEED Platinum designation.

The building was designed by architectural firm Goettsch Partners. Clayco was the developer and design builder, with interior design by CannonDesign, interior build by Executive Construction, Inc. (ECI), and landscape design by Hoerr Schaudt.
