MassDevelopment taps JLL to market land for sale in Devens, MA

Former military base growing into popular place to live, work, and play

BOSTON, MA, SEPTEMBER 6, 2016MassDevelopment, the state's finance and development authority, has hired JLL's Public Institutions team to market several parcels of land for sale in Devens, MA. Conveniently located close to Route 2, Interstate 495, and the MBTA commuter rail, Devens is just 40 miles west of Boston and 30 miles from Worcester.

Devens has 14 parcels for custom development opportunities designed to meet the needs of companies of all types and sizes, from two acres for a 10,000-square-foot laboratory to 80 acres for a 1,200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art research and development campus. The parcels are ideally suited for bio-pharmaceutical, bio-technology, laboratory, and research and development, and both back office or a corporate headquarters.

"We're pleased to work with JLL to market these parcels in Devens," said MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones. "With nearly 5,000 employees and a contribution of $2.5 billion to the Massachusetts economy, the Devens business community serves as a major driver for the region and the Commonwealth."

Located in central Massachusetts, Devens is a 4,400-acre mixed-use community and an award-winning model for military base reuse. After serving as the U.S. Army's New England headquarters for 79 years, Fort Devens was closed in 1996. MassDevelopment purchased the property and, with financial support from the Commonwealth, is redeveloping Devens into a sustainable and diverse mixed-use community.

"MassDevelopment has created an incredible asset for the state of Massachusetts and the businesses, employees and residents of Devens," said John Karnath, Public Institutions Manager at JLL. "The utility infrastructure and amenities are unmatched throughout New England in quantity, quality and diversity. The utility costs year-after-year are among the lowest in Massachusetts. Whether a company is building its first laboratory, research and development facility, or office, or expanding its global brand, Devens is a great location to consider."

Today, Devens features more than 100 businesses and organizations that collectively employ nearly 5,000 workers. With nearly 2,100 acres of open space and recreation land, Devens offers unique opportunities for active and passive recreation. Carefully planned progress and a multitude of first-class amenities have made Devens a popular place to live, work, and play.
