Managing Director Jonathan Meisel Becomes One of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Newest LEED® APs

Meisel’s Accreditation Part of Company’s Commitment to Becoming Industry Leader in Sustainability

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Aug. 3, 2009) — Jones Lang LaSalle, the leading integrated financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate, has announced that Managing Director Jonathan Meisel recently earned LEED accreditation, making him one of the company’s latest sustainability experts.

Meisel’s accreditation, part of Jones Lang LaSalle’s ongoing initiative to become the acknowledged leader in energy and sustainability services, furthers the company’s goals set forth in its Global Sustainability Commitment.

Responsible for more than 1 billion square feet of commercial space around the world, Jones Lang LaSalle has demonstrated a high level of professional and social commitment to sustainability.

Meisel, who heads Jones Lang LaSalle’s New Jersey operations and is now an Accredited Professional in Commercial Interiors, joins the ranks of more than 500 sustainability accredited individuals at Jones Lang LaSalle, primarily as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® Accredited Professionals (LEED APs), but also including standards such as BREEAM, NABERS Energy (formerly ABGR) and Green Star.

“We as an organization, believe that achieving LEED accreditation is a very strong metric of an employee’s commitment to providing clients with expert guidance and insight into their own sustainability initiatives,” Meisel said.

Many of Jones Lang LaSalle’s clients recognize that the future of commercial real estate is in sustainable buildings:  a resource-efficient building promotes the health and well-being of its occupants, is better for the environment and makes good business sense.

“Corporations are much more conscious about sustainability today, and through LEED accreditation, we are demonstrating that we fully understand their priorities,” Meisel said. “When it comes to advising corporations, Jones Lang LaSalle’s LEED APs can help them achieve enhanced energy efficiency as well as workplace health and wellness in a cost-efficient manner that maximizes the returns on their investment. When it comes to advising Landlords, our expert knowledge can enhance the competitive edge of their properties in the marketplace.”

According to Meisel, payback on the investment to go green can sometimes be achieved in as little as one year.

“This means that every year after that represents savings,” he said, “which not only helps landlords’ bottom lines, but also helps to enable them to offer more attractive and accommodating business environments to tenants, making their properties more competitive overall.”

Meisel, whose background is in engineering, brings with him a keen understanding of building design, adding to an already deep and diverse bench of Jones Lang LaSalle LEED APs.

LEED APs can be found in every branch of the company’s comprehensive service capability, including project and development services, property and asset management, construction, energy and sustainability services, corporate solutions, facility management, retail, tenant representation, investment management, agency leasing, strategic consulting and public institutions. Within the firm can be found expertise in LEED New Construction (NC), Commercial Interiors (CI) and Existing Buildings (EB) programs, the latter of which is currently transitioning to Operations & Management (OM).

In addition to his recent accreditation, Meisel is also a part of Jones Lang LaSalle’s ACT (A Cleaner Tomorrow) national initiative team, which works to increase the firm’s internal energy and sustainability awareness. ACT has developed several benchmarking and analysis tools and methods, as well as the expansion of employee expertise training via the newly established Sustainability University. The initiative consistently engages employees in following sustainable practices, pursuing LEED CI certification at several U.S. offices, and participating in events such as Earth Day and Earth Hour.
