Jones Lang LaSalle Wins California Sustainability Showcase Award

LOS ANGELES, March 1, 2010 — Jones Lang LaSalle has been awarded the Sustainability Showcase Award for “Commercial Buildings” from the California Sustainability Alliance, a market transformation program designed to help meet the state of California's energy, climate, resource and environmental goals.  Jones Lang LaSalle was selected for its successful development and implementation of best practices in water, waste, energy, and overall sustainability, and its practices and programs that demonstrate outstanding leadership and innovation.

Now in its second year, the award recognizes the successful sustainability policies, programs, practices, and technologies implemented by leading organizations in five areas: Commercial Buildings, Multifamily Housing, Local Government, Water Agencies, and Other Products and Services. The Sustainability Showcase highlights the efforts of organizations in the state of California that are paving the way towards California’s sustainable future.  Winners will be honoured at the California Sustainability Alliance Showcase Awards Luncheon to be held in February.

In addition to implementing successful sustainable initiatives, Jones Lang LaSalle established the first Sustainability University in the real estate industry, training employees in development, management and leasing of sustainable, energy-efficient buildings. Sustainability University has been instrumental in Jones Lang LaSalle achieving an industry-leading 575 professionals accredited in LEED®,  and other sustainable building standards, including 85 LEED Accredited Professionals in California.

“As an industry leader, we understand the importance of setting an example and have an Environmental Sustainability Board that drives thought leadership and innovative solutions for our clients, as well as reduces the environmental impact of our operations,” said Sarah Friedman, LEED® AP, Southern California Sustainability Director for Jones Lang LaSalle.  “Our team will continue to look to provide the latest trends and industry knowledge in California commercial real estate and demonstrate how building owners, occupiers and investors can reduce energy consumption and minimize their carbon footprint with the help of benchmarking programs like ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, as well as Jones Lang LaSalle’s proprietary Green Office toolkit.”

Recently, Jones Lang LaSalle was awarded the “Green Leader” designation by California Real Estate Journal honoring Peter Belisle, LEED® AP.  Belisle was highlighted as one of the state’s top real estate professionals advancing the cause of sustainable real estate, establishing new sustainable-oriented markets and transforming basic corporate values and practices.  Based in Los Angeles, Belisle leads Jones Lang LaSalle's Energy and Sustainability Services, which manages LEED, energy retrofit, and alternative energy installation projects. Belisle’s team has experience with over 88 completed and current LEED certification assignments for new construction, existing building and commercial interiors.

The California Sustainability Alliance (the Alliance) is designed to help meet the State’s aggressive energy, climate and other resource and environmental goals by increasing and accelerating energy efficiency in combination with complementary green measures and strategies.  In addition to energy efficiency, the Alliance's scope includes climate action, principles for "smart growth", renewable energy development, water use efficiency, waste management, and transportation management.
