Under Armour Brand House Named Store of the Year at A.R.E. Design Awards

Chicago flagship store designed by Big Red Rooster – a JLL company

CHICAGO, April 05, 2016 – With an assist from Big Red Rooster – a JLL company, Under Armour recently took home the biggest prize at the world’s largest retail design awards ceremony. Under Armour’s Brand House received the Store of the Year Award during the 2016 Association for Retail Environments (A.R.E.) Design Awards. Big Red Rooster designed the 30,000-square-foot flagship store in Chicago that boasts smart design, integrated digital experiences and localized elements.

“We thought through every detail and experience to tell the Under Armour story in our own words,” said Tom Walsh, Under Armour’s vice president of global store development. “We considered every moment of the customer’s journey through the store with the aim to use the space to hit each of the senses and help inspire athletes to reach higher and achieve their goals.”

With entrants from across the globe, the A.R.E. Design Awards are the industry’s largest and most prestigious retail store design awards. An independent panel of judges from industry magazines and retail powerhouses alike voted to honor the Under Armour Brand House as the year’s best new store design. In total, 75 awards were presented this year, a record for the 45 year old program.

“From a strategic store plan and a larger-than-life entrance to adrenaline-pumping interactive experiences, the Under Armour Brand House was a huge project—both in scope and in impact,” adds Aaron Spiess, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Big Red Rooster – a JLL company. “We’re happy to see that work recognized, and we can’t wait to see where the brand goes next.”

LEGO Shopper Marketing Agency of Denmark and Giorgio Borusso Design took home the other two top honors of the evening, winning Visual Presentation of the Year and Store Fixture of the Year respectively.  A complete list of 2016 winners and more information about the A.R.E.
