JLL’s Deborah Stearns Honored With Two Prestigious Awards

Urban League of Hampton Roads and Hampton Roads Business Hall of Fame recognize leading commercial real estate broker


NORFOLK, VA, March 23, 2015 – JLL Senior Vice President Deborah Stearns has received two awards from prestigious community and business organizations in the Hampton Roads region.

Stearns was one of six community leaders who received a Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service award from The Urban League of Hampton Roads Inc. Honorees were recognized for their tremendous personal and professional efforts to help empower local communities through education, engagement and entrepreneurship.

Stearns also received a lifetime achievement award from The Hampton Roads Business Hall of Fame. The group honors individuals whose business innovations, effective management and civic involvement have made a major impact and positive difference in companies and communities throughout Hampton Roads.

“Deborah’s work in the local community and civic engagement are a wonderful example and inspiration for us all, and reminder of the impact we can have on the communities where we work and live,” said Mike Ellis, Mid-Atlantic Market Director, JLL.

Stearns joined JLL in 2013 as a Senior Vice President to help grow the Hampton Roads office. With more than 35 years in the commercial real estate industry, Stearns has vast experience as well as strategic leadership and expertise. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Old Dominion University and studied Developing Managerial Excellence at the University of Virginia.

Stearns is active in the community and currently serves as AAA Tidewater’s advisory board chair, as well as former chair (2012-2013) of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.  Stearns has been recognized for her contributions to the community by several organizations, including receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from Old Dominion University and being named the Commercial Person of the Year in 2006 from the Commercial Real Estate Council of Hampton Roads.  In 2009, she received Volunteer Hampton Roads’ Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2011, Stearns was named Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s “Scouter Citizen of the Year”.  She has served as Chair of the Norfolk Airport Authority, Vice Chair of the Virginia Port Authority Board of Commissioners and Chair of the Old Dominion University Real Estate Foundation.  Stearns has been elected to Chair the South Hampton Roads United Way Foundation Board in 2016.
