Mercedes-Benz USA Selects 12-Acre Site in Metro Atlanta’s Central Perimeter for Permanent Headquarters

JLL client expects to move into new complex in Sandy Springs in late 2017


ATLANTA, Feb. 3, 2015 – JLL today announced Mercedes-Benz USA has selected a 12-acre site on Abernathy Road near Ga. 400 in northern metro Atlanta for its permanent headquarters. The U.S. division of Mercedes-Benz, which announced in January it will relocate from Montvale, N.J., to metro Atlanta, will build a state-of-the-art, 225,000-square-foot office complex on the undeveloped site, which is south of Abernathy at the Barfield Road intersection.

Completion of the permanent headquarters, located in the city of Sandy Springs in the Central Perimeter submarket, is slated for late 2017.

JLL has partnered with Mercedes-Benz USA throughout the luxury automaker’s search for a new headquarters by providing site selection, economic incentives consulting, tenant representation, capital markets and project development services. Meredith O’Connor, International Director; Rob Metcalf, Senior Managing Director; Michael Sessa, Managing Director; and Brad Selner, Managing Director, are serving as JLL’s project leads. O’Connor and Sessa are in JLL’s Chicago office, Selner in its Dallas office and Metcalf in its Atlanta office.

“This site in Sandy Springs offers everything Mercedes is looking for in metro Atlanta: a prominent and thriving area, and easy access to all of Atlanta’s interstates, the airport and MARTA,” Metcalf said. “This selection by Mercedes provides a powerful boost to both the Central Perimeter specifically and to metro Atlanta as a whole.” Mercedes’ move to Atlanta is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the region – a major portion of which will be filled by local residents.

“Metro Atlanta has proven time and again that it has all the attributes to lure Fortune 500 companies, and the region is poised to remain a powerful draw for large corporations seeking to relocate,” Sessa said.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz USA has chosen Sterling Pointe II, a Class A office building in the city of Dunwoody, also in the Central Perimeter, for its temporary headquarters. The automaker signed a three-year lease for 89,910 square feet and could expand its space within the next 90 days.
