JLL Expands Life Sciences Team in Latin America

Luis Torres-Acosta appointed to advise life sciences corporate real estate end users across Latin America

CHICAGO, Feb. 4, 2014 — With Latin America continuing to grow as an active market for biopharmaceutical companies, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is adding industry veteran Luis Torres-Acosta to its Life Sciences team. Torres-Acosta joins JLL as Vice President of Operations in Latin America, where he will assist global and regional life sciences companies plan and implement facilities projects. He is based in Puerto Rico.

"Luis' unique skill set will help our life sciences clients act quickly to pursue their business goals in Latin America," said Roger Humphrey, Executive Managing Director of the Life Sciences team for JLL. "He brings to our clients a deep understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements for their facilities, as well as key agency and industry relationships in the region."

With more than 24 years of experience, Torres-Acosta has a strong background in international life sciences manufacturing and infrastructure program management, including strategic planning, sales and marketing, technology transfer, engineering and construction, business logistics, restructuring and regulatory agency compliance. He has worked with both public and private entities, particularly in healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, as well as laboratories. For example, Torres-Acosta served as a project management for the Puerto Rico Dept. of Health, supporting the construction of a range of facilities and managing regulatory compliance.

Torres-Acosta has helped shape public policy regarding facilities projects in Puerto Rico. As an advisor to the Puerto Rican government, he worked on initiatives concerning tax incentives and permitting. He was also involved with the creation of the Puerto Rico Public-Private Partnerships Authority, a government-owned corporation that regulates public-private partnerships in Puerto Rico.

Torres-Acosta is active in numerous professional associations, including American General Contractors, American Society of Hospital Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers, Interphex Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Manufacturing Association, Puerto Rico Technologic Economic Corridor and Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce. He has a M.S. in Engineering and Manufacturing Management as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering specializing in Construction Management and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering specializing in Automation & Manufacturing Process Improvement.
