Baltimore Ranks Among Top Metro Areas for College Graduates

Jones Lang LaSalle ranks Baltimore 9th for concentration of job openings


BALTIMORE, Sept. 25, 2013 – As a result of its emerging cyber security industry and growing high-tech community, Baltimore ranks among the nation's top markets for job openings that require a post-secondary education, according to research analysis from Jones Lang LaSalle.

Assessed by a location quotient that factors in population to determine the concentration of job openings, Baltimore ranked ninth nationally.

"The concentration of high-skill jobs in Baltimore is a reflection of the strength of the cyber security and IT industries," said Brad Crosley, Vice President in Jones Lang LaSalle’s Baltimore's office. "Filling those positions, however, will continue to be a challenge for employers. The ability to attract and retain talent is an increasingly important factor for tenants and should be considered when analyzing real estate options."


Silicon Valley and the Bay Area in California ranked first and fifth, respectively, with Washington, D.C., Boston and Seattle rounding out the top five. The location quotients in Raleigh, Austin and the greater Hartford, Conn. region allowed those markets to rank just slightly ahead of Baltimore.
