Jones Lang LaSalle Selected to Lease North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC

CHARLOTTE, Sept. 2, 2011 — Developers of the North Carolina Research Campus, Castle & Cooke NC, have selected Jones Lang LaSalle as the exclusive leasing agent for the one million-square-foot research facility focused on biotechnology, nutrition and health. The state-of-the-art facility in Kannapolis, NC is home to tenants such as top research universities Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and UNC Charlotte as well as food companies General Mills and Monsanto.

“We now a have critical mass of tenants and people at the campus so it makes sense to bring on a company like Jones Lang LaSalle to help us market the real estate offerings,” says Clyde Higgs, Vice President, Business Development at Castle & Cooke NC. 

Jones Lang LaSalle’s Eric Parris, Chris Skibinski and Lee Allen will lead leasing efforts at the campus.

The current vacancy rate at the campus is 15 percent, with available space in the Core Lab building and build-to-suit opportunities. The site is being developed over the coming years with plans for office, residential, a hotel and retail properties.  Next year a 65,000-square-foot medical office building will be completed and available for lease.

“This modern research campus offers tenants cutting edge laboratories and $150 million worth of state-of-the-art equipment as well as great amenities,” said Chase Monroe, Jones Lang LaSalle’s Market Director for the Carolinas. “It has a very strong tenant base, a great mix of academic and private sector tenants.  It also has a very convenient location just 26 miles north of Charlotte.”

The 350-acre development includes research and lab facilities, office space and infrastructure designed to support collaboration and convenience. It has 700,000 square feet of lab space, a retail village, planned space medical office space, a future hotel and conference center, and land for industrial/manufacturing use.
