Jones Lang LaSalle Develops Energy and Environmental Assessment Tool for  Colleges and Universities

WASHIINGTON, July 9, 2013 – Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) today unveiled its new Energy and Sustainability Assessment Tool (ESAT), an online system to help colleges and universities benchmark and assess the environmental and energy performance of its buildings. Additionally the online tools helps manage campus operating costs, implement effective energy efficiency measures, minimize a campus’ carbon footprint and track improvements.  JLL developed ESAT for and is the exclusive partner of, the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), which represents more than 7,000 colleges and universities worldwide on facilities issues.

“College and university campuses face unique challenges because they support a wide range of facilities for a very diverse community,” said Herman Bulls, Chairman, Jones Lang LaSalle’s Public Institutions practice.  “While the academic and lab facilities, residences and sports facilities are all part of one organization, you cannot compare the performance of individual buildings due to their varying operational requirements.”

ESAT will be offered in conjunction with APPA’s Facilities Performance Indicators (FPI), a proven APPA tool that assesses and benchmarks critical areas related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of institutional facilities. ESAT expands the annual FPI report with a “solutions snapshot” that helps college and university facilities specialists know where their institutions stand in terms of achieving sustainability goals, which buildings and operations have room for improvement and where the institution is already strong. ESAT will provide a portfolio report that shows campus-wide performance as well as the performance of individual buildings.

“APPA is the thought leader in university and college facilities issues. We are proud to work with JLL on one of the most powerful evaluation and benchmarking resources for educational facilities,” said E. Lander Medlin,
Executive Vice President, APPA. “The development and implementation of ESAT allows APPA to provide additional value for our embers.”

“We have developed a wide range of tools that help JLL’s corporate clients reduce facilities costs and their carbon footprints, so it was a natural fit to apply that thinking to university and college facilities,” said Jiri Skopek, Managing Director of Sustainability, Jones Lang LaSalle.
