Jones Lang LaSalle Tops Out Steel Frame for New Hospital in Wallkill, NY For Orange Regional Medical Center

Project & Development Services Group Supervises Design-Build Hospital Project

NEW YORK, January 16, 2009 — Jones Lang LaSalle’s project and development services group in New York has completed the topping out of the steel frame for a new hospital for Orange Regional Medical Center in the town of Wallkill in Middletown, N.Y. Jones Lang LaSalle was selected as project manager for the 621,000-square-foot hospital project in the summer of 2007.
The new facility is being constructed using the design-build process, which combines design, permit and construction schedules to reduce costs and completion time as compared to traditional modern construction contract methods. Jones Lang LaSalle is managing a team of design and construction professionals that work together to complete their tasks at the same time.
The project team includes Raymond Quartararo, international director, Jack Tenanty, senior vice president, Nisan Gertz, vice president and health care market sector leader, Vincent Knoll, senior manager, and Michael Kirschner, project manager. The regional team is working closely with Jones Lang LaSalle’s national health care project management group, which has at least a dozen major hospital projects under way across the country.
“This assignment expands on Jones Lang LaSalle’s growing health-care practice in the New York area and around the nation,” said Raymond Quartararo, international director, with the company’s New York office. “Orange Regional selected Jones Lang LaSalle for its ability to handle even the most challenging construction projects. We excel at the detailed oversight and management skills required to make a success of a design-build endeavor such as this.”
Orange Regional Medical Center was created in 2001 following the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and Horton Medical Center. The organization will consolidate both hospital campuses into one state-of-the-art facility that will be more efficient and will better serve its communities.
The 374-bed replacement hospital will be constructed through the design-build process on a vacant 62-acre site on East Main Street in Wallkill near the Route 17 and I-84 interchange. Orange Regional Medical Center expects to complete its new 621,000-square-foot facility in 2011.
“Orange Regional Medical Center opted for a design-build process in order to construct its new combined facility with the greatest control possible,” said Gertz. “Design-build projects typically allow for tighter control over budget and schedule. The organization selected Jones Lang LaSalle to oversee the project due to our experience with large, complex construction projects.”
Orange Regional Medical Center plans to sell its two older facilities to fund a portion of the construction of the new hospital. It will feature a state-of-the-art, patient-centered hospital with ample parking, all private patient rooms, an emergency department with 50 treatment bays for varying levels of emergencies, spacious operating suites, and a wireless infrastructure to accommodate the latest digital healthcare technology.
Jones Lang LaSalle’s Northeast health care project management group is currently working on seven projects. These include small outpatient and nursing home renovations, infrastructure upgrades, new ambulatory care buildings and full replacement hospitals. In addition, Jones Lang LaSalle is consulting with a number of medical centers, including the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp., on improving operational and facility models.
