Jones Lang LaSalle Wins 2 IFMA Awards

Firm’s new offices at 330 Madison Avenue honored with award for Design & Construction of a New Facility, LEED Certified Award

NEW YORK, March 7, 2013 — Jones Lang LaSalle was honored with two awards by the International Facility Management Association at its annual IFMA/NYC Annual Awards of Excellence Dinner. The firm was honored for the construction and design of its headquarters space at 330 Madison Avenue.

The IFMA held its 30th annual IFMA/NYC Annual Awards of Excellence Dinner on Jan. 24 at The Pierre Hotel, 2 East 61st Street. At the event, the organization honored Ted Moudis, founder and senior principal, with Ted Moudis Associates.
Jones Lang LaSalle received an IFMA award for the Design & Construction of a New Facility (50,001 – 200,000 sq. ft.) for its new headquarters space at 330 Madison Avenue. Also honored with the award were architect IA Interior Architects; general contractor Americon Construction Inc.; and mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractor Syska Hennessy Group. JLL also received the IFMA’s LEED Certified Award during the event. Its space at 330 Madison Avenue was awarded LEED Gold Certification in mid-December 2012.

Accepting the awards for JLL were Peter Riguardi, president of the New York region, and George Kaufmann, senior vice president. Kaufmann oversaw the design and construction of JLL’s headquarters space at 330 Madison Avenue.
“We wanted an environment that would more accurately reflect our business culture,” said Kaufmann. “We designed a workspace that represents the values and standards we promote to our clients: efficiency, flexibility, and collaboration.”

JLL’s space at 330 Madison Avenue was intended to reflect elegance with a minimal use of resources and can be adapted to a wide variety of future requirements. The company’s New York headquarters makes maximum use of natural light penetration and was specifically designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification. JLL began working on the look of its new space in June 2011 and moved into 330 Madison Avenue in March 2012.

JLL faced a number of obstacles with its new space, including the inherent challenges caused by the building’s infrastructure in creating high ceilings for the space it occupied at 330 Madison; a reduced amount of natural light due to company’s location on the third and fourth floors; obtaining a consensus around a single office size; and designing open spaces to feel warm and appealing versus a large, open floor plate.

The company resolved the difficulty posed by 330 Madison Avenue’s infrastructure by turning to a “folded ceiling plane” design that increased the perceived height and improved the space quality of the open work areas. JLL also installed an indirect lighting design scheme that increased the brightness of the folded ceiling plane and, as a result, the perceived ceiling height and penetration of the limited amount of natural light. In addition, a number of freestanding columns in the open work areas were reduced in size and surfaced with back-painted, acid-etched silver glass to minimize their visual impact through the soft reflection of light and surrounding environment. Lastly, JLL applied a number of design elements to solve the challenges it faced at 330 Madison Avenue.

JLL is a leader in the New York tri-state commercial real estate market, with more than 1,750 of the most recognized industry experts offering brokerage, capital markets, property/facilities management, consulting, and project and development services.
