Jones Lang LaSalle received UnitedHelahtcare's 2012 Apex award

Jones Lang LaSalle’s customized Health Empowerment Program recognized for innovative approach to supporting employee health and wellness


CHICAGO (June 22, 2012) – Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL), a global professional services firm specializing in commercial real estate, has received UnitedHealthcare’s 2012 Apex Award, honoring employers and companies that offer exceptionally innovative health care benefit strategies.

Jones Lang LaSalle’s customized Health Empowerment Program, a comprehensive health and wellness campaign launched in 2010, features strategies and resources, such as support groups, health screenings, smoking cessation programs and an employee-generated blog featuring stories on the pursuit of health and wellness. In the program’s first full year, nearly 80 percent of Jones Lang LaSalle’s employees took a “Wellness Pledge” to improve their health, while 70 percent took advantage of the financial-incentives offerings that reward employees for taking preventive health measures.
 
Critical to the Health Empowerment Program is employee engagement through a network of nearly 150 “health champions” who organize office health fairs, screenings, weight loss challenges and healthy pot lucks, and who share testimonials of colleagues’ successes. The firm partners with the American Cancer Society and its Active for Life program, which includes 10-week, team-based competitions that encourage healthy living. With employees taking greater control of their health, the company has seen health care cost savings of $3 million total in the past two years.

This year’s Apex Awards judges praised Jones Lang LaSalle’s Health Empowerment Program as “extremely well thought out and executed,” adding that “it’s impressive to see a company this size successfully tie incentives with actual health outcomes, not just participation in a wellness activity.”

Now in its eighth year, the Apex Awards program honors UnitedHealthcare National Accounts employer customers that have designed innovative, effective health care benefits strategies that are improving the health care experience for their employees. An independent judging panel, composed of leaders from across the health care industry including the previous year’s winners, selects the winners based on employers’ innovative approaches to specific health care challenges.
