Jones Lang LaSalle Supports U.S. General Services Administration with Washington, D.C. Lease

GSA signs new lease for IRS at Union Square in CBD


WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar. 22, 2011 — Jones Lang LaSalle’s Public Institutions professionals have assisted the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in the award of a new lease in the Central Business District of Washington, D.C.  The 100,500-square-foot 10-year GSA lease will house the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at the Union Square building, located at 999 North Capitol Street, NE.

The building is owned by an affiliate of CIM Group, Inc.  The GSA’s space acquisition team was led by Kevin Terry, Lease Contracting Officer and Jose Alfonso and Kevin Morrison, Leasing Contract Specialists.  Jones Lang LaSalle professionals representing the government included Whitney Aaronson and Joe Judge.  Benjamin Meisel and Katie Burton of Akridge and Matt Lynch, Pete Marcin, and Lauren LeHew of Cushman & Wakefield represented the building owner.

The IRS will take occupancy of the building in the fourth quarter of 2011. 

According to their website, GSA’s leased portfolio contains more than 7,100 separate properties – totaling approximately 189 million square feet – dispersed across the United States.  Since 2005, Jones Lang LaSalle has assisted GSA in the award of more than 950 leases.  Nationwide, the firm is currently assisting on more than 575 lease procurements for Federal civilian departments and agencies across the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
