Dorsey & Whitney Relocates to 1801 K Street

Law Firm Moves to NEW Trophy Building

Washington, DC May 11, 2009 – Somerset Partners is pleased to announce that Dorsey & Whitney LLP has selected 1801K Street for its new Washington, DC office.  Somerset, with architect Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), has recently completed a total redevelopment of the property.  Dorsey & Whitney, a Minneapolis-based business law firm, will relocate its growing Washington, DC practice from 1050 Connecticut Avenue to 1801 K Street.
“Dorsey is excited about its new space in such a terrific, state-of-the-art building” stated Creighton Magid, Partner-in-Charge of Dorsey’s Washington, DC Office.   “We look forward to expanding our business at 1801K and to a long and productive relationship with Somerset Partners.”
With almost 600,000 square feet, 1801 K Street is one of the largest private office buildings in the city offering 42,300 square floor plates with 30’ x 33’ column bays, 9’ achievable ceiling heights and the free standing nature of the building allows for a 100% windowed perimeter.  The exterior has a new energy efficient glass curtain wall with full-height windows that provide sweeping views of Washington while minimizing solar heat impact.  The redesigned lobby features hand-selected Calcutta marble and a 200-foot long art installation by renowned light artist Leo Villareal.
"Dorsey’s decision underscores the enormous appeal of 1801K to leading companies, which value a world class location with timeless architecture and superior views in a highly-serviced building,” said Marshall Allan, co-founder of Somerset Partners.   “The tremendous efficiency of our floor plates, the brand new lobby designed by SOM and our completely overhauled infrastructure is attractive to today’s discerning tenants,” added Gregory Knoop, Head of Leasing and Operations for Somerset.  “We modernized 1801K to provide tenants with everything they need in a world-class office building, including technology, power, efficiency, and, most important, long-term potential to accommodate growth.”
1801 K Street is located in the Central Business District, four blocks from the White House.  It offers proximity to two Metro lines, Farragut North and Farragut West, both one block away.
The landlord was represented in the transaction by Trip Howell, Amy Bowser and Kate Griffin of Jones Lang LaSalle; Dorsey was represented by Pete Larson and Brian Isern of Transwestern.
