Jones Lang LaSalle Retail Joins Forces to Clean up Urban Nature Preserve

Firm takes part in volunteer community event in Richland Hills

ATLANTA, April 15, 2009 — More than 130 Jones Lang LaSalle Retail executives came together to give back to their local Atlanta community.  The team donned their scrubs, rolled up their sleeves and got to work on the Outdoor Activity Center, just outside downtown Atlanta. They joined forces with the Atlanta Food Bank and Park Pride, a partner of the Atlanta Parks and Recreation Commission to help improve the urban nature preserve at the heart of the Richland Hills community.

“Jones Lang LaSalle made a significant contribution to the Outdoor Activity Center,” said Ayanna Williams, Community Builder, Park Pride.  “Their hard labor made a huge impact in our restoration efforts.  The volunteers were a joy to work with because they were willing to work hard and get their hands dirty.  We are extremely appreciative of their efforts, and commend their initiative to give back to the local community.”

The Outdoor Activity Center is an urban forest and green space amenity providing educational facilities for Atlanta Public Schools. The 27-acre reserve is an integral part of the local community and is a haven for the local residents in this impoverished neighborhood.  The Jones Lang LaSalle team played an important role in improving the preserve’s community gardens – painting a shed at one of the gardens in preparation for a school visit and removing overgrowth; and creating new planting beds from another, enabling local youths to grow their own vegetables.

They were also involved in trash collection, cleaning up the trails, tending to the gardens, planting shrubs, mulching, mending fences in this mass cleanup operation. Additionally, the team raised $1,500 for the Atlanta Food Bank.

“For Jones Lang LaSalle Retail, spending a Sunday afternoon for a worthwhile cause was not only rewarding, but also a chance for the firm to give back to the community,” said Greg Maloney, President and CEO of Jones Lang LaSalle Retail. “The nature reserve is a significant part of the neighborhood and important to the quality of life of its residents. We felt that with a substantial team effort we could make a real difference to the future of this important community project.”

About Park Pride

Park Pride, founded in 1989, is the only organization that works with communities all over Atlanta to improve their parks. Each year Park Pride coordinates more than 20,000 hours of volunteer work in Atlanta parks, develops new conceptual park plans for neighborhood parks and helps start many "Friends of the Park" groups. Park Pride is able to engage and serve the community by generating these Friends of the Park groups, which focus on advocacy efforts as well as promoting participation in Park Pride's Adopt-a-Park, Park Visioning, Volunteer, Fiscal Partners and Micro Grant programs. Park Pride continued to work with local organizations and community members to support the creation of the Atlanta BeltLine, which promises to create more than 1,000 acres of new parks and 33 miles of trails. The organization's annual Parks & Greenspace Conference serves as the signature event to create a world class park system in Atlanta.
