Connecting Philly.com to Itself

Philly.com, the internet portal for The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, keeps hundreds of thousands of readers connected to world and local events each day.  Ironically, the service’s own staff members were challenged by being split up into several locations.  With the goal of fostering communication and collaboration by consolidating the Philly.com team into one workplace, the parent company engaged Jones Lang LaSalle’s assistance.          
                                                                                                          
With in-house experience in a variety of real estate services, our Philadelphia office assembled a team to meet Philly.com’s specific needs.  First, our local market transactions experts found and negotiated almost 15,000 square feet of centrally-located Class A office space for the consolidation.  Then our project management professionals proceeded to build and fit it out to Philly.com’s needs.  Challenged to keep down costs, we saved $170,000 through value engineering measures such as 120 degree workstation design and procuring quality used furniture, an environmentally-friendly idea that cut 50 percent from the FF&E budget.                        
                                                                                                                           
Within seven months we managed the smooth move-in of Philly.com employees to their new consolidated space, on time and within budget for the original project scope.   The staff can now create the site within sight of each other.
