Michelin signs mega-lease for industrial space in RidgePort Logistics Center

Construction is underway on one of the largest deals Chicago has seen in the last decade. Michelin tire company signed on to lease 1.7 million square feet in RidgePort Logistics Center in Wilmington, Ill. Inking this deal is helping launch the new business park—a 1,500-acre, BNSF rail-served business park with room for 14 million square feet of manufacturing, warehousing and logistics buildings for bulk distribution users.

JLL represented property owner Ridge Development to secure the lease, and continues to market the property on Ridge’s behalf. Learn more about available space.

“Not only are we excited to break ground on the Michelin project, but this facility will be one of the largest distribution projects in the country when fully built-out,” said Jim Martell, president of Ridge Development. “To put it in perspective, the new Michelin complex will be equal in size to nearly 30 football fields.”

The first phase of the project consists of two 680,000-square-foot buildings and one 340,000-square-foot building. Michelin will use the new facilities to store and distribute its wide range of commercial, industrial, car, motorcycle and bicycle tires, which will bring hundreds of new jobs to the region.

RidgePort Logistics Center is strategically located three miles south of the Interstate 55 Arsenal Road exit that leads to the BNSF Logistics Park-Chicago in Elwood and Union Pacific-Joliet Intermodal Terminal in Joliet. It is flanked by more than two miles of BNSF mainline frontage to the west and I-55 to the east. The park would serve as the western terminus of the proposed Illiana Expressway, a toll road that would connect I-55 and I-65 in northern Illinois and Indiana.

Located in the Will County Inland Port region, the largest inland container port in North America, RidgePort provides economic incentive packages to qualified companies, has an Enterprise Zone designation and qualifies for a Foreign Trade Zone designation.
