New Belgium Brewing’s new facility doubles production capacity and reduces carbon footprint

New Belgium Brewing Company, maker of Fat Tire and other Belgium-inspired beers, is third-largest craft brewer in the United States, and is headquartered in Fort Collins, Colo.

The brewery needed more production and distribution capacity, and turned to JLL to help them find the perfect location. To meet customer demand and adhere to core New Belgium values, the brewery needed around 200,000 square feet of space that would allow for sustainable production, and be in a livable and workable community.




JLL analyzed all the qualitative and quantitative factors: logistics, labor, real estate, utilities and tax incentives along with New Belgium’s commitment to sustainability. We then set out on a location hunt and found the optimal site on the west banks of the French Broad River in downtown Asheville, NC where we assembled four land parcels from different owners to construct their brewery.  

In addition to meeting New Belgium’s location and facility needs, we obtained numerous local and state-level incentives, including significant local cash grants, to make the project feasible.

After closing on the land in 2012, completing design work and demolishing old buildings in 2013, New Belgium broke ground on its new facility in May 2014, and will begin shipping beer from there in Winter 2015.
