BioSquare: Boston's first LEED Certified Laboratory Building

Boston University and Boston Medical Center (BU/BMC) selected JLL to perform the base building and interior construction of a 175,000-square-foot, eight-story laboratory and research facility at BioSquare, a life science complex at 670 Albany Street in downtown Boston.

Seeking to leverage our full capabilities, BU/BMC retained our firm to provide construction, investment development, leasing and property management services. Our deep involvement with the project allowed our team to get involved at its conception, minimizing construction risk and controlling overall costs. During an intricate preconstruction phase, our construction team collaborated with the design team and associated engineers; performing constructability reviews of the preliminary design plans, providing detailed budgets and setting complex schedule expectations.

A true mix of office and lab space, the finished facility includes office space, a training auditorium, a vivarium, and laboratory space with fittings for pathology, biology and pediatric infectious disease research. The result is a state-of-the-art laboratory and research facility at Boston's preeminent biomedical research and business address, which is the first LEED Certified laboratory facility in Boston.
