Case Study

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Project and Development Services
When Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, an international dance touring group, decided to overhaul their facility, they chose Jones Lang LaSalle’s Project and Development Services to oversee the entire development process. They chose Jones Lang LaSalle as project manager to oversee construction and restoration.
The team at Jones Lang LaSalle worked with city and state agencies and other lending and funding sources to make sure the project complied with necessary rules and regulations for funding.

The site itself includes 12 dance studios ranging in size from 1,250 s.f. to 2.250 s.f. and two of the studios convert to multi-purpose performance theaters with seating for approximately 300 people. Support areas include: a box office, green room, concession facility offices, a library, archives, an audio production studio, student lounges and warm-up areas with locker and bathroom facilities, a dyeing shop, a physical therapy facility, storage space and a boutique.

All aspects of the process were environmentally conscious while also preserving the historical landscape and design created by the original architects.
The project resulted in a new world class facility; delivered on-time and on-budget while executing a seamless relocation.
