L.A. airports soar with on-call real estate services

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is challenged with meeting the needs of not one, but four Southern California facilities, anchored by U.S. top five air passenger and cargo handler Los Angeles International Airport.  Another member of the group, Van Nuys Airport, is the number one U.S. general aviation facility.
To successfully address the wide ranging, ever-changing operational circumstances of the four airports, LAWA has retained Jones Lang LaSalle’s Port, Airport and Global Infrastructure practice for on-call real estate services.

Recent projects involving our team and the LAWA airports include:

  • Disposition and re-use of a former Delta Airlines hangar at L.A. International, including ramps and office space totaling 160,000 square feet of on-tarmac real estate.  To date, two qualified bidders have been identified for re-use of the facility.
  • Validation analysis to confirm the highest and best use of a 168-acre LAWA-owned parcel earmarked for future development into a consolidated rental car facility.
  • An alternative use study for 18,000 acres of LAWA-owned land at Palmdale Airport.  Our team is currently validating an opportunity to create a solar energy farm on part of the land.

As part of an ongoing partnership, Jones Lang LaSalle will undertake future LAWA projects including aviation demand and design consulting, provision of architectural, engineering and legal services, and retail and near-airport hotels for passenger terminals.
