Specializing in transforming ideas drawn on paper into reality, Bowman Consulting is a professional services organization focused on civil engineering, surveying and environmental consulting. A Virginia native, Gary Bowman founded the company over two decades ago in Fairfax County. Over the years, the consulting firm experienced incredible growth, expanding to more than 35 locations across the United States. Historically, Bowman occupied an industrial, flex warehouse with separate spaces for corporate and production functions. As time went on, the space became dated and unappealing, hindering the recruitment and retention of top talent. Taking stock of his company’s growth as leases for both the corporate and production spaces neared their expiration dates, Gary realized new spaces would accommodate the company’s continued expansion. That’s when Gary approached JLL.

Bowman Consulting

Having previously worked with Bowman, Gary knew JLL’s Jake Katz and Chuck LaRock would go above and beyond to identify real estate solutions for the company’s next phase. Above all else, the Bowman leadership team wanted the new space to complement the brand and company culture they spent several years cultivating. The atmosphere needed to promote collaboration and engagement amongst current employees while also invite and appeal to new talent. The office space at 12355 Sunrise Valley Drive in the heart of the burgeoning Reston submarket did just that. Surrounded by walkable amenities, the space offered the competitive edge needed to recruit and retain industry experts. With an on-site gym and flexible workspaces, the new office bolstered Bowman’s shared value of health and wellness for all employees.

The second office needed to accommodate a very different work style. Employees at 13461 Sunrise Valley Drive manage engineering projects, surveying and conducting environmental studies for their clients. The space required easy accessibility to project sites as well as a communal atmosphere perfect for collaborative sessions with the clients and team. With plenty of huddle rooms and open spaces to meet and discuss ideas, 13461 Sunrise Valley Drive fulfilled that goal. The employees, regularly in and out of the office, could come back to a comfortable home base with a spacious kitchen and on-site gym whenever they felt the need.

To continue their upward trajectory, Bowman needed to make this move. By enlisting JLL’s help, Bowman was able to find a workplace solution that matched the company’s culture while accommodating distinct work functions. Since the switch, both spaces have increased Bowman’s clout to new talent and brought employees closer together, in turn driving Bowman’s business goals forward.
